It’s taken me a while to write this post. I asked my Trunk Club stylist, Erin, for back to school styles and some comfy shoes for teaching. Now I’m already in week three of the new school year. Our evenings and weekends have been extremely busy, and I just haven’t had time to sit down and write. Even though this post is late, I’m so excited to share my Trunk Club back to school styles with you!
Trunk Club Back to School Styles
If you’re not familiar with Trunk Club, it is a styling service provided by Nordstrom. When you sign up, you will be given a personal stylist who will get to know your fashion likes and dislikes. She will choose fifteen to twenty items and send them directly to your door. The best part is it’s completely free unless you choose to keep something. I sent one whole trunk back and didn’t pay a penny. (Update: There is now a $25 styling fee for each trunk. It is applied to any item you choose to keep.) Another thing I love about Trunk Club is that you pay the sale price for any item that is on sale at Nordstrom.
When your trunk arrives at your house, you have ten days to try everything on in the comfort of your own home. This gives you time to think about what you’re keeping and returning before sending it back. Once you’ve made your decisions, returning your trunk is so easy. Just email Trunk Club, and they’ll schedule a UPS pick-up at your doorstep for free. I love being able to shop without ever leaving my house! Check out the Trunk Club back to school styles I received.
Three Quarter Dolman Sleeve Tee by Caslon
I really liked the Three Quarter Dolman Sleeve Tee when I pulled it from my trunk. The light blue color with navy stripes looked great with a pair of jeans. It was lightweight and comfortable. It covered really well in the back, but it was shorter in the front. I wish it would have been a little bit longer in the front. Then, it would have been perfect for casual Fridays at school. I decided to send it back.
Short Sleeve Shirttail Tee by Halogen
The Short Sleeve Shirttail Tee was very light and flowy. I had to put a camisole under it because of the slits on the sides. This would have been cute for summer, but with fall weather approaching it didn’t seem like the right time to buy this. I also usually like my shirts more fitted. I returned it.
Lightweight V-Neck Cardigan by Halogen
I’ve been looking for a new cardigan for a while now. I need them for my classroom because I never know what temperature it will be. Some days it’s really warm, and I need to remove layers. Other days it’s freezing, and I need to add layers. I will be able to leave a cardigan at school for those cold days. Luckily, Erin packed three cardigans in my trunk. The first one I tried on was the Lightweight V-Neck Cardigan. I really liked its color, and the length was perfect. I definitely would have kept it if it would have been the only cardigan in my trunk. However, I returned it because I liked another one better.
V-Neck Lightweight Merino Cardigan by Halogen
The next cardigan I tried was the V-Neck Lightweight Merino Cardigan. I have a lot of black skirts and pants, which would look good with it. I also really liked the black polka dots on the gray background, and it fit really well. This will be perfect for layering on the days when my classroom is an icebox. Since it goes with so many of my outfits, I decided to keep this cardigan. It is a perfect back to school style.
Rib Knit Wool Blend Cardigan by Halogen
I knew I wouldn’t be keeping the third cardigan as soon as I took it out of the box. The Rib Knit Wool Blend Cardigan was way too long for my style. It almost went down to my knees. The light pink color was pretty, but I don’t have as many outfits it would match. It was very comfortable, though, and would have been good for a cold day. I sent it back.
Henley Blouse by NYDJ
When I pulled it out of the trunk, I loved the colors of the Henley Blouse. The pink and purple flowers really popped on the white background. However, when I put it on, I realized that it wasn’t fitted at all. I also didn’t like the neckline. I prefer V-necks, so I decided to send this blouse back.
‘811’ Ankle Skinny Jeans Ink by J Brand
Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of the ‘811’ Ankle Skinny Jeans Ink since I could not pull them up no matter how hard I tried. I really liked the dark color of these jeans, so I might request them in a larger size for my next trunk. I will have to go into my Trunk Club profile to update my pant size. I’ve received several pairs of shorts that fit really well, but this is my first pair of pants. I obviously had to send them back.
‘Modern Confetti’ Print Jersey Wrap Dress by Vince Camuto
When I pulled the ‘Modern Confetti’ Print Jersey Wrap Dress from my trunk, I had no idea what it was. It was a long piece of fabric with a belt hanging from it. It seriously took me fifteen minutes to figure out how to put it on. When I finally got it on, it looked better than I expected. I really liked that it had three quarter length sleeves. However, I don’t have an extra fifteen minutes to get dressed in the morning. It’s also a little bit low cut for school. Therefore, I returned this dress.
Floral Scuba Fit & Flare Dress by Vince Camuto
Erin sent me a few really cute dresses. I loved the colors of the Floral Scuba Fit & Flare Dress. Fit and flare is my favorite style of dress, and I own several of them. This one would have been a really cute addition to my collection, but at $128, my budget didn’t allow for it right now. I told myself I could request it in my next trunk and sent it back.
Floral Ponte Fit & Flare Dress by Eliza J
The Floral Ponte Fit and Flare Dress was another cute option. I really liked the different shades of pink. However, the floral pattern was a little too big and bright for me. I didn’t like this one as much as the last one. I returned it with no regrets.
Crepe Fit & Flare Dress by Eliza J
The Crepe Fit and Flare Dress was the last of this style. The bright pink color was really pretty. This was my husband’s favorite item from the trunk, so I came really close to keeping it. Then, I looked at the price tag. At $158, it was just a little too expensive. If it would have been Christmas or my birthday, I may have splurged for this one or the Floral Scuba Dress (which I actually liked better). Since I don’t have the extra money right now, I returned it.
‘Lesnoy’ Stripe Knit Dress by Theory
The ‘Lesnoy’ Stripe Knit Dress was the final dress Erin chose for me. I really liked the horizontal stripes and three quarter length sleeves. When I looked in my closet, I realized that I have another dress almost identical to this one. I really don’t need two of the same dress, so I decided to return it.
‘Bristal’ Ankle Strap Pointy Toe Flat by Halogen
I asked Erin for some comfortable flat shoes for teaching. The first pair she picked for me was the ‘Bristal’ Ankle Strap Pointy Toe Flat. I loved the color and the details. The criss-cross straps were really cute. However, I’m not a fan of pointy toe shoes. I just don’t think they are very comfortable, so I returned this pair.
‘Meow’ Ribbon Tie Flat by Steve Madden
The ‘Meow’ Ribbon Tie Flat was the second shoe Erin selected. These were really comfortable, and I loved the way they looked from the front. I also could have used a pair of plain black flats. However, I wasn’t quite as fond of the back of these shoes. A small bow in the back would have been fine, but these ribbons were way too long. I could just see students stepping on them as I walked down the hallway. I even contemplated cutting the ribbons and making the bows smaller because I liked the fit of the shoes so much. My husband talked me out of it, and I sent them back.
‘Davina’ Moc Toe Loafer by UGG
I was really excited to see UGG on my Trunk Club receipt. Then, I pulled these shoes from the box. I wasn’t a big fan of the color or the look of these shoes. When I put them on, they were too big. The zipper also made noise every time I took a step. I put these back in the box and returned them.
Even though I only kept one item from this trunk, I had so much fun trying on all of the clothes. I am really excited about wearing my new cardigan as a one of my back to school styles. Plus, now I have some items on my wish list. I know exactly what I’m requesting from my family members for Christmas – money or Trunk Club gift cards.
Are you interested in finding out what a personal stylist would choose for you? I highly recommend that you try Trunk Club. What do you have to lose? If you don’t like anything, you won’t spend any money. (Update: There is now a $25 styling fee that gets applied toward anything you keep.) If you decide to try it, I would really appreciate it if you would use my referral link.
You can also check out my first trunk from Trunk Club. If you would have received this trunk, what would you have kept?
